Boxing Results: Jeremy Hill Upsets Maliek Montgomery in Super Featherweight Clash

Boxing Results: Jeremy Hill Upsets Maliek Montgomery in Super Featherweight Clash

Super featherweight Maliek Montgomery (20-1, 18 KOs) was upset by Jeremy Hill (22-3-1, 13 KOs), losing a ten-round unanimous decision on Saturday night at the Sycuan Resort & Casino in El Cajon, California.

In the first three rounds, Montgomery outworked Hill mainly to the body. In the fourth round’s final seconds, Montgomery hurt Hill with a body shot.

Hill continued to have a good round in the sixth round, going from orthodox to southpaw, countering Montgomery, who kept the pressure on him. Hill landed a four-punch combination in the seventh round in the first minute, having another good round. In the eighth round, it went back and forth.

Montgomery kept coming forward in the ninth round, getting countered by Hill. This was another close round won by Hill. The tenth and final round was an all-out slugfest, the best round of the fight. Hill outlanded Montgomery.

Scores were 97-93, 97-93 and 98-92. Rudy Barragan was the referee.

In the co-main event, Lightweight Kurt ‘Scoob’ Scoby, 16-1 (14), stopped Cesar ‘Ras Tas Tas’ Villarraga, 11-12-1 (5), at 2:14 of the fifth round of a scheduled eight rounds.

In the second round, Scoby landed a left hook in the final seconds. He followed up with another left on the chin and down went Cesar ‘Ras Tas Tas’ Villarraga for an 8-count from referee Rudy Barragan as the round ended. Scoby landed a flurry of punches in the fifth round without return, and Referee Barragan called a halt.

Super middleweight southpaw Donte ‘Mr. KO’ Layne, 7-0 (6), defeated southpaw Malik Calhoun, 3-3-1 (2), by a six-round unanimous decision.

In the first four rounds, Layne had a slight edge. In the fifth round, Layne suffered a cut on the left eyebrow. It was close in the sixth and final round, with Calhoun having an edge.

The scores were 58-56, 58-56 and 59-55. David Sullivan was the referee.

Bantamweight Richard Fernandez Jr., 3-0 (2), knocked out Garret Palmer, 0-2) at 1:26 of the first round of a scheduled four rounds.

In the first rounds first 30 seconds a combination from Fernandez on the chin dropped Palmer for an 8-count from Referee Chris Leamon. A minute into the round, a left hook to the chin from Fernandez and down went Palmer again for an 8-count. A flurry from Fernandez with no return caused Ref Leamon to wave it off.

The ring Announcer was Matthew Parrino.
