Colts predicted to stun NFL by trading Anthony Richardson to QB-needy team

The Indianapolis Colts have yet to realize the reward for picking Anthony Richardson fourth overall in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Two years later, what if they looked to give everyone a fresh start?

That’s the premise proposed by Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox. He wants the Colts to explore trading Richardson away.

“At this point, a fresh start could make sense for both Richardson and the Colts,” Knox writes, “though the quarterback has no plans to seek a trade, according to (Tom) Pelissero. Other teams, however, should see if the Colts are willing to cash in Richardson and start over.”

Richardson has been inconsistent as a passer in the NFL, putting up a 47.7 completion percentage in 2024.

The Colts added Daniel Jones this offseason to, at the very least, compete with Richardson for the QB job.

If Richardson went on the trade block, a bunch of teams would probably inquire.

“Given his age, the relative lack of QB depth in the 2025 class and the shrinking list of available veterans, it would behoove quarterback-needy teams to at least see if Richardson can be had,” Knox writes.

Richardson is still a tantalizing player because of his athletic ability and beautiful deep ball throws.

He could still catch on in Indy, but if the Colts decided to shop him, maybe he’d do best with a new home.
