The Chicago Bears are hoping Ben Johnson can create the type of offense he had in Detroit in Chicago. They could target an elite playmaker in the draft to help him do so.
Sam LaPorta was a big part of the Detroit Lions offense when Johnson was the offensive coordinator. While Cole Kmet is very talented, the Bears could add a more explosive tight end early in the draft. ESPN’s Jordan Reid predicted that the Bears would select Penn State’s Tyler Warren with the No.10 overall pick.
“Tyler Warren, TE, Penn State. The Bears’ offense should run plenty of 12 personnel, so adding the best tight end in the class to pair with Cole Kmet makes sense,” wrote Reid. “Warren’s receiving skills and blocking prowess would provide a versatile playmaker for quarterback Caleb Williams and new coach Ben Johnson.”
Warren had 1,233 yards last season. He led the Big Ten in receptions after playing in 16 games. He also finished seventh in the Heisman Trophy race. Adding him to an offense with D.J. Moore, Rome Odunze and Kmet could help the Bears offense make a quick turnaround. Johnson is considered one of the brightest offensive minds in football and giving him a player like Warren could pay off quickly.
Warren finished his college career with 153 receptions, 1,839 yards and 19 touchdowns. Most of his production came last season when he had more yards than he did in the previous three seasons combined.
