Kambosos Defeats Wyllie, Brown Upset Victory Over Nicolson in Sydney

Kambosos Defeats Wyllie, Brown Upset Victory Over Nicolson in Sydney

‘Ferocious’ George Kambosos, Jr. defeated the late substitute Australian Super Lightweight champion Jake Wyllie by a 12-round unanimous decision in the main event on Saturday night at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia.

In the co-feature, WBC World female featherweight champion Skye Nicolson lost her title to Tiara ‘The Dark Menace’ Brown by a 10-round split decision.

Former IBF, WBA, WBO, and IBO World lightweight champion Kambosos, Jr., 22-3 (10) beat Wyllie, 16-2 (15) by a competitive 12-round unanimous decision.

In the first three rounds, Kambosos had the edge. In the fifth round, Wyllie had his moments backing up Kambosos, who kept his left to his side. From the sixth through the ninth, Wyllie fought back well, though Kambosos had the edge.

In the eleventh round, Wyllie, knowing he was behind in the fight, tried to catch up to Kambosos, showing his toughness. In the twelfth and final round, Kambosos tossed Wyllie to the canvas. For the most part, Kambosos was doing the holding, knowing he had the victory in the bag, trying to avoid the clash of heads. It was Kambosos who was cut on the right eyebrow and over the left eye earlier in the fight from this.

The scores were 117-111, 117-111, and 115-113. Will Sollis was the referee.

2020 Olympian, WBC World female featherweight champion Nicolson, 12-1 (1), lost by a 10-round split decision to Brown, 19-0 (11). Brown was the aggressor in the first five rounds, having an edge in a close fight. Nicolson did enough in the last five rounds to keep, if at least even.

The judges’ scores were 96-94, 97-93 for Brown, and 96-94 for Nicolson. Joel Scobie was the referee.

WBA World female bantamweight champion Cherneka ‘Sugar Neekz’ Johnson, 17-2 (6) topped former WBA champ Nina Hughes, 6-2 (2) at 0:46 of the seventh round of a scheduled 10×2 rounds.

In the third round, Hughes suffered a bloody nose due to a clash of heads. From the fourth through the sixth, Johnson dominated. In the seventh round, Hughes was warned for holding when his corner threw in the towel.  Rafael Ramos was the referee.

2016 Bronze Olympian for Russia, NABF light heavyweight champ Imam Khataev, 10-0 (9) beat Durval ‘El Bombardero’ Elias Palacio, 14-4 (11) by a ten-round unanimous decision.

In the first three rounds, Khataev dominated. In the fourth round,d Palacio drove Khataev into a corner. Later in the round, Khataev dropped Palacio with a right on the chin for an 8-count from Referee Ignatius Missailidis. Palacio was cut on the left eyelid. Palacio fought back with a lot of heart in the ninth and tenth.

The scores 99-89, 99-89 and 98-90. Ignatius Missailidis was the referee.

Heavyweight Hemi ‘The Heat’ Ahio, 24-1 (18) knocked out Aekkaphob Auraiwan, 9-4-1 (7) at 2:59 of the first round of a scheduled 10-round bout. Will Soulis was the referee.

2024 Heavyweight Olympian Teremoana Jnr, 7-0 (7), defeated James ‘The Beast’ Singh, 12-6 (11), by a first-round knockout of a scheduled six-round bout. The official time of the stoppage was at 2:12 of the first round.

In the first round, Teremoana dropped Singh with a left on the chin for an 8-count from Referee Ignatius Missailidis. Upon rising, Singh was met with half a dozen punches from Teremoana when Referee Missailidis called a halt.

Super Lightweight Jayden Buan, 4-0 (3) defeated Jordan Kasilieris, 1-4-1 (1), by a four-round unanimous decision. The scores were 40-36, 40-36 and 39-37. Ignatius Missailidis was the referee.
