This event is a homecoming bout for the Aussie boxing champion Skye Nicolson, as she will be making the third defense of her WBC title. Nicolson’s opponent the 36-year-old Tiara Brown is an eight year veteran who will be challenging for her first world title.
Back in April 2024, the rising star Skye Nicolson scored a unanimous decision victory over Sarah Mahfoud and won the vacant WBC world featherweight title. Three months later, she defended her belt for the first time, as she defeated Dyana Vargas.
Nicolson would go on to fight for a third time in 2024 when she beat Raven Chapman via unanimous decision. Nicolson has spoken about her interest in regards to a unification bout, but before she receives the opportunity to face a fellow champion, she must successfully defend her strap against a tough opponent.
Tiara Brown made her pro boxing debut back in September 2016 when she stopped Khadija Sanders in the first round. For the next five years Brown would balance her boxing career with her job as a Washington DC police officer.
Despite the fact that she had to work by day and train by night, Tiara Brown was able to remain undefeated. She resigned from her job in 2021 to focus strictly on boxing. Now, the undefeated contender is on the verge of fighting for a world title.
The 29-year-old champion Skye Nicolson is a skilled southpaw who rarely loses rounds. She has an elite jab, precise timing, and excellent footwork. The challenger, Tiara Brown, is an aggressive fighter who has power, good punch placement, and a steady work rate.
The defending champion Skye Nicolson is accustomed to dictating the pace of her fights with the jab and her footwork. The challenger Tiara Brown doesn’t like Nicolson’s fighting style. Brown has hinted at the fact that she will cut the ring off, push the pace of the fight, and make Nicolson consistently work during the course of the championship bout.
“There’s a difference between boxing and running. Skye runs from her opponents. She throws seven or eight punches per round,” Brown said. “We want to see a fight. I’m going to do my part. I’m not going to allow her to do that Sonic the Hedgehog running around the ring all night. Come Saturday, I’m chopping her down.”
