49ers’ John Lynch confident in team’s future: ‘Big things coming our way’

The San Francisco 49ers have undergone some big roster changes this offseason. However, general manager John Lynch is confident in the team’s future and ability to rebuild.

The 49ers have notably lost Deebo Samuel, Talanoa Hufanga, Dre Greenlaw, Javon Hargrave, Leonard Floyd, Jordan Mason, Aaron Banks and Charvarius Ward. However, the losses go hand in hand with Lynch’s desire to get younger as a team. The 49ers have 11 draft picks and hope to use them to have a quick rebuild. Lynch is confident in the team’s ability to turn things around after missing the playoffs last season.

“The bottom line is you’re always looking at years out (from now),” Lynch told reporters, according to The Athletic. “And we forecast it, and we’ve got some big things coming our way. And you have to clear the requisite room to be able to do that. And you don’t want to get to a point where you have to do things to keep your roster afloat. You want to have that flexibility.”

The 49ers will have to figure out their quarterback situation before the draft. The team has noted publically that they want to keep Brock Purdy around, but he has not agreed to an extension yet. If talks with Purtdy fall through, the 49ers will have to reevaluate their future and draft strategy. With six picks in the first four rounds, the Patriots should be able to find replacements for players they lost. Even if the team misses the playoffs next season, signs of potential from young players should get them excited for 2026.
