Patriots veteran starter breaks silence after surprise cut decision

The New England Patriots have had a busy offseason. They hired Mike Vrabel as their new head coach and made a flurry of moves in free agency. They also surprisingly released veteran lineman David Andrews.

Andrews has been with the Patriots since 2015 and has started 121 games for the team. The move saved the team $2.67 million in cap space. Andrews reacted to the team’s decision on his podcast, “The Quick Snap.”

“I respect their decision,” Andrews said. “I still love the organization, still love the community, we’re still here, we don’t have any plans to make any drastic moves right now.”

Andrews is a two-time Super Bowl champion and was a fan favorite. He also talked about how he knew his release was a possibility.

“I brought it up (during media availability) the team might make this decision,” Andrews said on his podcast.

Retirement is not out of the question for Andrews. He discussed how he had a tough decision to make about his future and if he wanted to move his family out of New England. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Patriots and went on to have a great career with the team. The veteran center should be able to find a new team, but the question remains whether or not he wants to keep playing. He is 32 years old and may not want to put on another team’s uniform.
