The KRONK Gym Returns: Detroit’s Legendary Boxing Institution Rises Again

Detroit’s most iconic boxing institution, KRONK Gym, is making a comeback, bringing back the spirit of Emanuel Steward’s legendary stable. Under new ownership but with the continued involvement of Marie Steward and Sylvia Steward-Williams, along with some of KRONK’s original world champions, the goal is clear—restore KRONK’s legacy and make it a powerhouse once again.

KRONK: More Than a Gym, a Detroit Institution

For decades, KRONK was more than just a training facility—it was a proving ground for greatness. Under Emanuel Steward’s leadership, it became a global boxing empire, producing Olympic medalists and world champions while embodying Detroit’s gritty fighting spirit.

The new KRONK leadership team, featuring Paul Bhatti, John Lepak, Amer Abdallah, Mikey Shumaker, Marie Steward, Sylvia Steward-Williams, and KRONK’s first world champion, Hilmer Kenty, is set on bringing back the gym’s elite-level development system, producing top-tier amateurs and professionals, and reigniting its deep connection with the Detroit community—just as Steward intended.

New Training Facility & Fighter Development

A brand-new KRONK Gym facility is in the works, with details to be announced soon. This new gym will serve as a hub for young fighters, aspiring champions, and world-class professionals, carrying forward the tradition of excellence that defined KRONK.

“Like thousands of other kids, Emanuel Steward was like a father figure to me, and to now be in a position to help carry on his legacy in and out of the ring is a tremendous honor and responsibility,” said John Lepak, managing partner and a member of the original KRONK Gym.

Hilmer Kenty, KRONK’s first-ever world champion and now KRONK Ambassador, added: “Emanuel Steward and KRONK played such an important role, not just in my life, but in the lives of so many Detroiters. I am delighted to be officially back home as part of the KRONK Team.”

KRONK’s Community Impact & Global Vision

KRONK isn’t just about training future champions. The new ownership is committed to youth mentorship, community programs, and expanding KRONK’s influence beyond boxing.

“My father dedicated his life to Detroit, to the KRONK Gym, and to shaping the world of boxing, touching the lives of so many. I am very impressed by the new team’s vision and goals for expanding the legacy my father built. He would be incredibly proud of their efforts,” said Sylvia Steward-Williams, Emanuel Steward’s daughter.

Paul Bhatti, CEO of KRONK, summed it up perfectly:
“This isn’t just about restoring a legendary boxing gym. It’s about providing opportunities for the youth, engaging with community and business leaders, and giving the people of Detroit another sports franchise to be proud of.”
