Bengals clap back at critics after signing Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins to extensions

Bengals clap back at critics after signing Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins to extensions

There was no shortage of people throughout the NFL world who didn’t think the Cincinnati Bengals would pay both Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase, but that was ultimately proven to be wrong.

The Bengals made Chase the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history with a four-year, $161 million deal, while Higgins landed himself a hefty four-year, $115 million contract. The Bengals have now paid three of their key pass-catchers this offseason, with the team also inking tight end Mike Gesicki to an extension.

Ahead of those deals being agreed to, many talking heads had their doubts about the Bengals being able to pay both Higgins and Chase, and of course there’s the narrative that Cincinnati is cheap.

Well, the Bengals didn’t forget about all that and posted a video to social media reminding everyone of how much doubt there was.

Kudos to the Bengals for paying their best players, but there remains one more they have to back up the Brinks truck for: Trey Hendrickson.

With how important elite edge rushers are in today’s NFL, and with the Bengals desperately needing to improve on defense after it was the cause of them missing the playoffs last season, Hendrickson should have been a much high priority than Higgins. We’ll really be impressed if the Bengals can get something done with Hendrickson, also.

Things weren’t looking great there for a while with the star edge rusher, as he was given permission to seek a trade not long ago. However, recent reports suggest Hendrickson and the Bengals might be able to get something done.

“The Bengals, even after getting lucrative extensions done with Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, still hope to do a deal with Trey Hendrickson despite granting him permission to seek a trade,” FOX Sports’ Jordan Schultz reported on Monday. “It won’t be easy, but they are not giving up there.”
