Bears $22 million free agent could bolt Chicago to join Bo Nix, Broncos

The Chicago Bears have been busy this offseason in improving their offense. They could lose a veteran player to the Denver Broncos in the second wave of free agency.

The Bears acquired Keenan Allen from the Los Angeles Chargers before the season, but he only managed to rack up 744 receiving yards. Although he found the end zone seven times, the trade did not yield the results the Bears expected from the six-time Pro Bowler. Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox tabbed the Broncos as a landing spot for Allen.

“Allen would fit well into Denver’s offense, where he could spell Marvin Mims Jr. and Devaughn Vele on the perimeter or in the slot,” wrote Knox. “His route-running, hands and experience could also benefit young quarterback Bo Nix as he continues to develop.”

Allen could join Courtland Sutton and help the Broncos make a deeper playoff run. They were able to make the postseason in Nix’s first season, but adding a veteran pass catcher could go a long way. Allen is projected to sign a two-year, $22 million deal in free agency. He would not be an overly expensive addition.

He has 11,274 career receiving yards and 66 touchdowns. Although he is not the player he once was, he can still be an asset in the red zone. He is just one season removed from a Pro Bowl campaign and perhaps playing in a more stable system could help him reach that form again.
