Packers great Aaron Rodgers reportedly has ‘standing offers’ from two NFL teams

Although teams across the NFL continue to make moves in free agency, it seems as if some people are merely waiting for former Green Bay Packers star quarterback Aaron Rodgers to decide which team he will play for next.

After being officially released by the New York Jets last week, Rodgers has been linked to the New York Giants, Pittsburgh Steelers and, more recently, the Minnesota Vikings. But there has been little indication as far as which team he will end up choosing to sign with.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Giants and Steelers have “standing offers” for the four-time MVP.

“I’m told from sources that Rodgers does have standing offers from the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants,” Fowler reported on SportsCenter, via SNY. “I checked with the source from one of those teams about a timeline for Rodgers. I got back a text with the Webster’s dictionary of the word enigma, and so that’s kind of the feeling right now.

“Teams are waiting this out, waiting on Rodgers. The feeling is there’s not just a money consideration here. There’s fit, there’s surroundings, all those things.”

In recent days, there has been a growing feeling that Rodgers may end up in Minnesota. After all, another Packers legend by the name of Brett Favre left the team to play for the Jets before ending his career with Minnesota.

Rodgers reportedly has been “hoping” to sign with the Vikings, but whether they actually want him is reportedly up to head coach Kevin O’Connell. Fowler said that they’re perhaps not an option for the future Hall of Famer.

“Minnesota Vikings are sort of on the periphery here. Sources there tell me that it’s possible they get involved with Rodgers, but the feeling this week has been probably not. They want to develop J.J. McCarthy.”

According to a report from The Athletic, Rodgers may simply decide to retire if the Vikings say no to him.

While he isn’t the same player he was just a few years ago, he did throw for a solid 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns last season. One has to figure that he doesn’t want his storied career to end the way the last two seasons did for him while with the Jets.

He tore his Achilles during their first offensive series of the 2023 season, and the team failed to reach the playoffs in both of the last two seasons.
