Oscar Piastri has signed a new contract with the McLaren Formula 1 team in what has been described as a “multi-year” deal.
Piastri’s previous deal still ran until the end of 2026, but McLaren has now moved quickly to extend the Australian’s terms ahead of the 2025 season opener this weekend in Melbourne.
As was the case when it re-signed Piastri’s team-mate Lando Norris on a new long-term deal in January last year, McLaren has not specified the length of Piastri’s renewal, but his fresh multi-year contract will likely take him to at least 2028 pending various options.
“It’s a great feeling knowing that I’m part of McLaren’s long-term vision,” 23-year-old Piastri said.
“The team had the belief in me when we signed in 2022, and the journey we’ve gone on over the past two seasons to help return McLaren to the very top of the sport has been incredible.”
Having been snapped up from Alpine’s junior programme, former F2 and F3 champion Piastri immediately impressed on his McLaren F1 debut in 2023 and then snatched his first two grand prix wins during last year’s sophomore campaign on his way to fourth in the drivers’ championship.

McLaren said both Piastri’s on-track performance and his attitude and work ethic behind the scenes made an early contract renewal an easy decision for McLaren as it aims to stave off interest in the Australian.
“Not only is he an incredibly talented driver, but his work ethic and cultural fit within the team made it a no-brainer to extend his time in papaya,” said CEO Zak Brown.
“We’ve got the best driver line-up on the grid, and in the past two seasons, we’ve seen how much of an asset to the team Oscar is both on and off track.
“He was absolutely fundamental in adding to our legacy with the 2024 constructors’ championship last season.”
