Lamont Roach posted on social media today, saying his performance against “generational star” Gervonta Davis was proof that he’s “pound-for-pound talent” and can’t wait for the rematch.
Big Money Options
Roach shouldn’t get his hopes up too much because WBA lightweight champion Tank may go in another direction towards WBC champ Shakur Stevenson or Jake Paul. Those are bigger fights that would pay a lot more money than running it back against the still little known Roach.
With the Tank-Roach fight being shown on PPV with a $79.95 price tag earlier this month on March 1st, many boxing fans didn’t see the match. So, Roach is still an unknown guy, and not on the same level as Shakur, Jake Paul, Ryan Garcia or Devin Haney.
If Tank is seriously planning to retire at the end of 2025, he needs to maximize his revenue by fighting Shakur or Haney next. It’s better that he tackle those two, then Ryan before finishing his career with a huge fight against YouTuber Jake Paul.
It’s too early to tell whether Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs) is a pound-for-pound type of fighter. It looked like Tank Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) had an off night and didn’t press the way he normally does in his fights. When he finally went after Roach in the later rounds, he looked great.
Pound-for-Pound?
“Even though I ain’t get the results I deserved, I was the other half of a sellout crowd that broke the record for highest grossing event in the history of the Barclays Center. AND I showed that I was a pound-for-pound talent against a generational star in the sport. I was born a star but March 1st a star was finally under the microscope of the world! I can’t wait to run it back and put on a show again! #Belt2Ass part two OTW [on the way,” said Lamont Roach on Instagram today, talking about being eager to fight Gervonta Davis in a rematch.
Roach should move up to lightweight permanently, and go after Shakur, or WBO champion Keyshawn Davis. If he’s truly a pound-for-pound fighter, he should be able to handle those two without any problems.
