Brock Jarvis says he will hit and hurt “the old man,” Keith Thurman on March 12th in their 10-round fight at junior middleweight at the Hordern Pavilion, Sydney, Australia.
The former WBC and WBA welterweight champion Thurman (28-1, 22 KOs) looks all of 36, coming off a three-year layoff after dealing with injuries and fights falling apart on him. ‘One Time’ says he would beat Jarvis (22-1, 20 Kos) even if he were 56, and he feels it’s going to be a cakewalk.
“Old Man”
Jarvis, 27, states that Thurman isn’t the fighter he “used to be”, and the injuries, advancing age, and inactivity will be too much for him. Age hasn’t been kind to Keith. His hair has gone thin, and he doesn’t have the same spry look that he had the last time he fought.
Keith hasn’t fought since his win over Mario Barrios in 2022, and he’d been out of the ring three years before that after getting a nice payday against Manny Pacquiao in 2019.
He likes to read and practice yoga. Those activities have a way of keeping a fighter out of the ring. Some fans believe that Thurman is only coming back to replenish his bank account with good Australian money for the Jarvis and Tim Tszyu fights.
Risky Tune-up
If ‘One Time’ is victorious against Jarvis, he’ll face former WBO 154-lb champion Tszyu next. In other words, Jarvis is the tuneup, and a risky one. He’s got excellent power in his right hand, and the youth advantage.
“The way this fight is going to go. Keith is an old man now. He’s not the same as he used to be. He thinks he’s the same but he’s not,” said Brock Jarvis at today’s press conference for his fight against Keith Thurman on March 12th in Sydney, Australia. “He’s coming off some injuries, and he’s going to really struggle to get back in there.
Then 40-year-old Pacquiao dropped Thurman and hurt him to the body in their fight. That wasn’t the first time Keith was hurt to the breadbasket during his career. Jarvis is obviously going to target that weak area
KO Aim
“I’m going to hit him, and I am going to hurt him. It’s going to be interesting to see how he reacts to it.”
“He’s never seen nothing like this. I could be 46-years-old and I still whoop his a**. I could be 56-years-old and I still whoop his a**,” said Thurman. “I came back to get in the sport of boxing that I love. They wonder why I’m still here but when I bring that hot fire, you’re going to know what it’s all about, man.”
“I looked at him the other day and he didn’t look ready at all. He looked like he was involved in a yoga class,” said Jarvis. “I’m the one bringing the heat. I’m coming for the knockout. I’m not going to miss. I’m going to hit him and I’m going to hurt him. It’s going to be interesting. I don’t know how he’s going to react at his age anymore.”
