Brian Gutekunst and the Green Bay Packers have more flexibility to work with this offseason than they have had in quite some time. With that flexibility, the front office will look to make moves that take the Packers to the next level.
After coming up short in 2024 and losing in the Wild Card round of the playoffs, there is clearly more work needed.
One of the areas that Green Bay needs to improve is at wide receiver. Jordan Love needs more weapons.
Currently, the Packers have a lot of talent at the position, but they don’t have any clear-cut No. 1 options. Christian Watson also tore his ACL in the final game of the regular season against the Chicago Bears. They could use a proven star.
Where could they turn to find that star? A potential option could be Houston Texans free agent wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
Jacob Camenker of USA Today has linked Diggs as a potential target for Green Bay. It’s a move that would make a ton of sense for the Packers with his projected market value being listed at $13.5 million by Spotrac.
During the 2024 NFL season with the Texans, Diggs played in just eight games before going down with a torn ACL. There will be some risk due to the injury, but Green Bay should not pass on the opportunity to sign him because of the concern.
In the eight games that he did play with Houston, Diggs ended up catching 47 passes for 496 yards and three touchdowns. He wasn’t on pace for his best year, but it was going to be a very productive season.
At 31 years old, Diggs still has plenty of time left playing at a high level. If the Packers were to sign him to a one-year deal, he could easily re-sign after the season if things work out as planned.
Should Green Bay really want to get aggressive to add a high-end target for Love, Diggs would be the right kind of move. They may not end up having interest in him, but it’s a move that would make a ton of sense.
