EUGENIE BOUCHARD suffered a freak eye injury during a pickleball training session.
Bouchard, 30, was rushed to hospital and had to wear an eye patch after receiving treatment.
The Canadian was practicing and got hit in the eye by the plastic ball that led to her going to urgent care.
The former tennis ace updated her 2.3million followers on Instagram and shared the full extent of her injury.
However, the ex-Wimbledon finalist assured her fans that she will be healed in “a matter of days”.
Bouchard posted: “Got hit in the eye with a pickleball during training today.
“It was a shank off my partner’s paddle straight into the eye. Went to urgent care and have a scratched cornea.
“The things we do for this sport! Will be healed in a matter of days.”
Bouchard made her name in tennis but recently found success in a different kind of sport after trying her hand at pickleball.
The game is similar to padel as it’s two vs two in a small court and is rapidly increasing in popularity across the world.
This is not the first time Bouchard got to feel the risks of her new sport.
Last month, the former World No5 competed in a match that saw her opponent getting carried away and slamming the ball point-blank at her.
But Bouchard got her revenge as she started to land some tough shots of her own.
