Garrett Crochet cleared for Red Sox playoff roster ahead of wild-card clash with Yankees

Garrett Crochet recovered from shoulder inflammation just in time to get added to the Boston Red Sox’s wild-card roster.

Crochet, who has not pitched since April 25, was one of 12 pitchers named to the Red Sox’s staff, a potentially significant boon as they’ve missed their staff ace the past five months.

Yet expectations will certainly be in perspective.

Crochet only recently began throwing bullpen sessions, and he might only be available for a single inning – or even just three batters. Red Sox manager Chad Tracy said Monday that the club did not know if he could pitch on consecutive days, among other boxes that need checking.
