Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are scheduled to stand face to face on Wednesday in London to launch their December 11 Cardiff clash. Dana White will not be on the stage. The decision to bar White keeps the promotion alive following a bitter contract row that threatened to destroy the event before the first bell.
Eddie Hearn, Frank Warren, and Spencer Brown will front the media instead. The public launch looked dead after Fury claimed Joshua wanted an exit route, while White openly cast doubt on the press conference taking place.
Hearn insists Joshua’s existing contract excludes White from promoting the bout. White argues that limitations on Zuffa Boxing and TKO do not ban him as an individual. Leaving him off Wednesday’s stage allows the heavyweights to face off without an active promotional war erupting beside them.
It does not settle White’s ultimate role between now and December.
The launch cleared another hurdle when Fury resolved a dispute over VADA testing. Joshua had threatened to remain in Dubai until Fury entered the testing pool. Fury completed his paperwork and logged his whereabouts, removing the final blockade.
This meeting comes years after boxing purists demanded it. Both former champions are deep into their thirties, motivated as much by massive financial guarantees as settling historic supremacy. Deciding the king of Britain in December will pack the stadium in Wales, yet everyone involved knows the competitive shelf life of both men is running short.
Wednesday represents far more than an ordinary photo call. Fury previously claimed the bout had a one percent chance of survival. With the promotional skirmishes shoved into the wings, both fighters appearing together in London puts the focus strictly where it belongs.
