Floyd Schofield is eager to punish Lucas Bahdi for his pre-fight trash talk. That could be a dangerous way to approach their October 10 lightweight title fight. Schofield has not fought in more than 15 months, and Bahdi has already knocked out one unbeaten prospect who appeared to be in control.
Schofield’s last fight ended in 78 seconds when he stopped Tevin Farmer in June 2025. It was an impressive finish, but it offered no evidence of how his timing or stamina will look after a long layoff. Bahdi presents a different problem from a quick return opponent: he can change a fight with one punch. Schofield made clear that their comments have stayed with him.
“I’m going to beat some ass October 10th. I will be victorious, and I just can’t wait to get in that ring. I got something for all the trash talking that Lucas was doing, him and his team,” said Schofield to MillCity Boxing.
Schofield also said he respects Bahdi as a fighter and a father. Once the fight starts, though, that anger could affect his decisions. If he rushes in looking to make Bahdi pay immediately, he gives a dangerous counterpuncher the exchanges he wants.
Bahdi produced his breakthrough by knocking out Ashton Sylve in 2024 while trailing on the scorecards. He later went twelve rounds to beat Roger Gutierrez, showing he does not need an early knockout to win. Bahdi has had a layoff of his own since that August 2025 victory, so neither man comes in with recent fight activity on his side.
The vacant WBA belt has not generated much buzz by itself. Gervonta Davis is champion in recess, and the Schofield–Bahdi winner will become the active lightweight champion.
Davis may choose other opponents rather than fight the winner, leaving Schofield or Bahdi to carry the belt forward. For Schofield, the more immediate task is staying disciplined if Bahdi survives the opening rounds and starts firing back.
