The countdown to October means different things across Major League Baseball.

Which MLB teams are closest to elimination?
The Seattle Mariners have been eliminated from wild-card contention but are not yet mathematically eliminated from winning the AL West. The Mariners hold the tiebreaker over the Houston Astros but lose the tiebreaker to the Texas Rangers. Seattle is five games behind Texas and Houston with five to play, giving it an elimination number of 1.
The Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays have an elimination number of 1 in the AL wild card race. The two AL East rivals continue a three-game series at Camden Yards with a doubleheader on Wednesday.
