Colorado coach Deion Sanders has gotten a ruling on the question of whether he’ll be required to testify in Shilo’s upcoming bankruptcy trial.
The bad news? Deion did not successfully quash the subpoena.
The good news? He won’t have to testify in the days preceding the regular-season opener at Georgia Tech, next Thursday night.
The best news? His testimony likely won’t be needed at all.
Via Christopher Kamrani of The Athletic, Sanders has been ordered to testify on Friday, September 4, at 1:30 p.m. MT. He will appear virtually, and not in court.
And he won’t appear at all, unless Shilo’s lawyer opens the door to testimony from Deion in a prior case. Deion’s lawyer, Harvey Steinberg, told Kamrani that he doesn’t expect Shilo’s lawyers to open that door.
The trial arises from an effort to discharge an $11.89 million civil judgment in a personal-injury case arising from an altercation at Shilo’s school in 2015. The key question is whether the injuries were “willful and malicious.”
If so, the debt survives. If not, the debt will be avoided.
