Dana White gave the strongest indication yet that Tyson Fury’s fight with Anthony Joshua is headed to Madison Square Garden on November 20, then tore into Eddie Hearn for challenging the New York plan.
The UFC CEO stopped short of directly confirming the date and venue, but his sarcastic response suggested the MSG report was no surprise to him. When told the fight had been agreed for Friday, November 20, he replied, “Interesting.” Pressed to confirm Madison Square Garden, White said, “If that’s what the word is, then that must be it.”
White sounded unwilling to make the formal announcement himself rather than uncertain about the location. He also grew irritated when a reporter questioned his promotional role in the event.
“You might want to ask the promoters of the fight. What, I thought you were promoting? Oh, am I promoting the fight? Okay, I’m not going to play these games with these [expletive] guys. You know what I mean? Let’s see what happens.”
The sharpest attack came after White was told that Hearn still wants Joshua-Fury in the United Kingdom and had discussed possible legal action over TKO negotiating with Madison Square Garden before securing Joshua under contract.
“I have not. I stopped listening to Eddie Hearn about three months ago. Is there anybody more full of [expletive] than this guy? Come on. Completely full of [expletive].”
White bypassed the contractual question and turned the disagreement into a personal attack. His response did nothing to explain how TKO can finalize an American venue if Joshua signed for a fight in the United Kingdom.
The exchange suggests Hearn has less control over the event than his public comments imply. TKO has negotiated its television and venue arrangements, while Hearn is still arguing that Joshua must approve any move from Britain.
Madison Square Garden serves Netflix’s interests. A Friday night broadcast would place Joshua-Fury in American primetime while avoiding Saturday college football and Sunday NFL competition. British viewers would receive an overnight main event instead of the Wembley occasion they expected for years.
