Eddie Hearn Launches Odel Kamara On Whittaker Card

“It starts October 3 in Birmingham. I promise to give the fans excitement so they know what I’m all about,” Kamara said in Matchroom Boxing’s press release. “This is the start to a busy end to the year.”

The promise of a busy finish suggests Hearn wants Kamara fighting more than once before 2026 ends. Matchroom has given him immediate DAZN exposure on a card headlined by one of its leading British attractions, allowing him to skip the untelevised small-hall circuit.

Kamara’s amateur success does not guarantee the stardom Hearn envisions. He needs more punching power and better stamina before he is ready for demanding professional opposition.

Ben Whittaker provides a useful example. His punches have become much more damaging since leaving the amateurs, allowing him to discourage opponents rather than relying entirely on speed, movement and scoring bursts. Kamara will need to make a similar transition.

The three-round amateur format concealed some of his weaknesses. Kamara often looked tired by the third round, which becomes a serious liability once his fights extend to six, eight or ten rounds. Professional opponents will attack the body, apply pressure and force him to work after his legs begin to fade.

An amateur can slow down late and still protect a points lead. A professional who tires after three rounds risks being broken down or stopped.

Matchroom has not named Kamara’s debut opponent, so his starting level is unknown. The platform and promotional ambition are already in place. Tony Sims must now help Kamara develop the power and conditioning required to make Hearn’s plans realistic.
