Frank Martin Open To Fighting Raymond Muratalla At Light Welterweight

Frank ‘The Ghost’ Martin is open to facing Raymond Muratalla at light welterweight after trainer Robert Garcia named him as an option for Muratalla following his move to the division.

Muratalla is leaving lightweight after defeating Robson Conceicao by unanimous decision on August 1. Garcia made it clear afterward that he wants strong opposition at 140 and specifically named Martin as an option.

Martin heard the comments and welcomed the matchup.

“They mentioned my name first. He coming up to 140 or whatever, so I think they got their eyes on me or a fight with me. I’m really with fighting anybody. If everything makes sense and things like that, I’m with fighting anybody,” said Martin to Fighthype.

Promotional politics shouldn’t present much of an obstacle. Martin recently signed with Top Rank, putting him under the same banner as Muratalla. His priority, however, is following the plan his team already has in place.

Martin is targeting a return in October before pursuing a light welterweight title opportunity early next year.

“Hopefully I fight in October, and then we shooting for early next year to get the belt. I want to stick to what me and my team talked about and what we plan on working on. I want to stick with that route,” said Martin.

The timing will determine how quickly the fight becomes realistic. Martin wants his autumn bout first, while Muratalla has only recently decided to leave 135. Both being with Top Rank makes the fight relatively easy to put together if their plans eventually cross.

Muratalla would give Martin a credible test as he works toward a title opportunity at 140. Martin would offer something similar for Muratalla, who wants to move directly into meaningful fights rather than spend several bouts working his way into the division.
