Bill Haney claims Keyshawn Davis has pulled out of the ordered WBO welterweight title fight with Devin Haney.
“He ducked it,” said Bill Haney on X on Friday, talking about Keyshawn. Devin Haney amplified his post.
Haney later expanded on the claim during a livestream with Champside, saying Keyshawn and his attorneys notified the WBO and the involved parties that they were withdrawing from the fight. Neither Top Rank nor the WBO had publicly confirmed Haney’s account at the time of publication, and Davis had not responded publicly.
If Haney’s version proves accurate, the financial outcome of Thursday’s purse bid may explain the decision.
Top Rank secured promotional rights with a winning bid of $8.55 million for the proposed October bout. Under the WBO’s 75-25 split, Devin Haney would receive the champion’s share while Keyshawn would be in line for roughly $2.14 million before any contractual deductions.
That figure is lower than the reported $3 million guarantee Bill Haney previously claimed was available before the purse bid. While that amount has never been independently confirmed, the mandatory purse split would leave Keyshawn with a smaller payday.
The two camps traded public remarks throughout the negotiations. Bill Haney repeatedly urged Davis to accept the fight, while Davis insisted discussions belonged between the promoters rather than through social media.
For the moment, the story rests entirely on Bill Haney’s account. Any statement from the WBO, Top Rank, or Keyshawn’s team will determine whether the ordered title fight remains in place or if another opponent enters the picture.
