I’m admittedly stealing a classic Simpsons clip to start this morning.
“The Yankees beat the Phillies 3-1 last night and might sweep this series”
That’s good!
“Cody Bellinger might have to go on the IL with a hamstring issue.”
That’s bad.
“Austin Wells and Jasson Domínguez both woke up with big solo homers.”
That’s good!
“Beyond them and the now-injured Bellinger, the other Yankees* combined to go 3-for-24, all singles.”
That’s bad.
*Yes, yes, it’s a bit uncharitable to discount three starters from the team’s final results, but that’s the bit. And it’s still annoying, given that they were facing a whole bunch of crap from the Phillies’ Frankenstein-esque fifth rotation spot. Well, at least they won.
Today on the site, Sam will consider the impending free agent overshadowed in the Padres’ bullpen by Mason Miller as a potential trade target: southpaw Adrian Morejon. Madison will run through the Rivalry Roundup, Matt will celebrate the 134th birthday of forgotten Yankees no-hit artist/1923 World Series champion Sad Sam Jones, and Scott will discuss the Venezuelan RailRiders’ stirring reaction to the pain of the news of recent earthquakes back home. Don’t miss John’s weekly Social Media Spotlight, either!
