Demetrius Andrade Returns With First-Round Knockout Of Douglas Ataide

Fighting for the first time in 20 months, Andrade wasted little time shaking off the rust. Midway through the opening round, he hurt Ataide with a left hand before following with a right that sent the Brazilian crashing to the canvas. Referee Ricky Gonzalez completed the count at the 2:09 mark, giving Andrade an emphatic first-round knockout.

The CES Boxing card, promoted by Jimmy Burchfield and streamed on DAZN, also featured several entertaining bouts.

In the co-feature, WBC International featherweight champion Kevin Walsh rallied from early trouble to stop former WBC Silver featherweight titleholder Dannis Aguero Arias in the second round. Arias stunned Walsh twice in the opening round, but Walsh answered by dropping him with a right hand before scoring another knockdown in the second. Referee Arthur Mercante Jr. halted the contest at 2:14.

Middleweight Douglas Marroquin remained unbeaten with a unanimous six-round decision over Daine Smikle. Smikle enjoyed success through the opening half of the fight before Marroquin turned the tide with a hard right hand in the fifth and closed strongly to earn three 58-56 scorecards.

Joseph Chisholm stopped Rashad Hicks in the second round after scoring knockdowns in both rounds. Slawomir Bohdziewicz also earned a second-round stoppage, flooring Russ Kimber twice before the referee stepped in.

Luis Porozo edged Gianni Liguori by unanimous six-round decision in a competitive lightweight contest. Carlos Perez won every round on the judges’ cards in a six-round victory over Anthony Mora, using sharp counterpunching throughout the fight.

Kevante Wineglass remained unbeaten with a majority decision over Josh Melvin after four competitive rounds. Melvin enjoyed his best success in the third, swelling Wineglass’ left eye, but Wineglass did enough to secure the verdict.

Anthony Nieves rounded out the card with a second-round stoppage of Jancel Castro-Guante. After hurting Castro late in the opening round, Nieves forced the ending in the second when Castro was ruled unable to continue following a trip to the canvas.
