Delgado, Biyarslanov Set For Vacant IBF light Welterweight Title On Canelo-Mbilli Card

Lindolfo Delgado and Arthur Biyarslanov will fight for the vacant IBF light welterweight title on the undercard of the Canelo Alvarez vs. Christian Mbilli event in Riyadh this October.

The championship became vacant after Richardson Hitchins moved up to welterweight following his signing with Zuffa Boxing. Hitchins had been scheduled to defend the IBF belt against Oscar Duarte before vacating the title.

Delgado, 24-0 (16 KOs), earned his title opportunity by defeating Gabriel Gollaz Valenzuela in an IBF final eliminator last November. The former Mexican Olympian has won all 24 of his professional bouts and now gets his first opportunity to fight for a world championship.

Biyarslanov, 21-0 (17 KOs), also competed at the 2016 Olympic Games before turning professional in 2018. The Canadian-based contender has built an unbeaten record while scoring notable victories over former title challenger Mohamed Mimoune and former world champion Sergey Lipinets.

The matchup pits two undefeated contenders against one another for a vacant world title rather than elevating a mandatory challenger to champion without a fight. Delgado is regarded as a technically skilled boxer, while Biyarslanov enters the bout with a higher knockout percentage after stopping 17 of his 21 opponents.

The fight adds another world title contest to the Riyadh card, which is headlined by Canelo Alvarez challenging for the WBC super middleweight title against champion Christian Mbilli. Additional bouts for the event are expected to be announced as the October card continues to take shape.

The winner will become the new IBF light welterweight champion and establish himself as one of the division’s leading contenders following Hitchins’ move to welterweight. With both fighters still unbeaten, the matchup gives the Riyadh card another world title fight featuring two rising contenders.
