“I just got to keep doing my work, keep getting wins, and that fight’s going to come,” Rodriguez said to Fight Hub TV when asked if he still believed a meeting with Inoue was inevitable.
“Like I said, it’s inevitable at this point. So, I just got to keep doing my work, keep winning.”
Rodriguez has repeatedly been linked with Inoue in recent months, particularly following the Japanese star’s victory over Junto Nakatani. However, Bam also indicated that he still sees himself growing into higher weight classes.
“I kind of agree with you. I’m still young. I feel like I still have my man strength to grow into. So, I mean, it’s just a matter of time. I got to, like I said, got to keep doing my job and that’s winning,” said Bam Rodriguez.
Inoue, now 33 years old, turned professional in 2012 and has spent 14 years competing at world level. Rodriguez, meanwhile, is 26 and only in his ninth year as a professional.
Although fans continue to push for one of boxing’s most anticipated matchups, Jesse made it clear that overlooking Vargas would be a mistake.
“If I don’t get past this fight, then all that talks out the window. So, I save that for after the fight. I got to do my work and make sure I get the job done Saturday,” said Bam.
Rodriguez also praised Vargas’ credentials ahead of their meeting.
“I think his resume, his experience, you know, he’s an Olympian, man. That says a lot. It takes a lot of winning and a lot of skill to even become an Olympian,” said Rodriguez about Vargas.
“People don’t know his name, so they’re just assuming he’s a nobody. But real boxing heads, they know. And I’m a real boxing head. So, that’s why I trained my ass off for this fight.”
Victory over Vargas would add another world title to Rodriguez’s growing collection and intensify calls for a future collision with Inoue. Rodriguez repeatedly emphasized that Vargas remains his priority and that discussions about Inoue can wait until after Saturday’s bout.
