Game 4 of the 2026 NBA Finals was a cathartic, potentially franchise-defining win for a long-suffering New York Knicks fan base. It seems not all of them reacted well.
A video circulating on social media appears to show a mob of Knicks fans greeting the San Antonio Spurs as they returned to their team hotel following their dramatic loss earlier Wednesday night. While most fans limited their engagement to heckling, the video shows objects clearly being thrown at the team.
At least two projectiles are targeted at Spurs star Victor Wembanyama, who remains composed on his way in.
Another angle of the incident, which also appears to show laser pointers in use:
That was the end of a painful night for the Spurs, who led by 29 points at one point in the third quarter before completely collapsing against a Knicks team that has made a habit of incredible comebacks. The Knicks now lead the series 3-1 and are one win away from their first title since 1973.
This is the second straight game in New York that has seen bad postgame behavior. After the Spurs’ win in Game 3, multiple videos showed Spurs fans getting attacked on the streets, with 21 people also arrested after a Bryant Park watch party devolved into chaos.
Wembanyama was asked about the attacks on Tuesday and had this to say:
“My thoughts, of course, is that we can’t forget it’s a game. We’re just playing a game out there. And I am all for passion, but, to the respect of each other, it’s unacceptable.”
Game 5 of the NBA Finals is scheduled for Saturday in San Antonio (8:30 p.m. ET, ABC/ESPN). If the Spurs want to win this series, they will have to make one more visit to New York for Game 6 on Tuesday.
