Chris Billam-Smith Stops Ryan Rozicki After Grueling Battle In Bournemouth

Chris Billam-Smith overcame a determined challenge from Ryan Rozicki to score a stoppage victory in their cruiserweight main event on Saturday night at the Bournemouth International Centre in Dorset, Bournemouth, England.

The contest served as the headline attraction for Zuffa Boxing’s first event in the United Kingdom and delivered the physical, hard-fought battle many expected.

The contest was fought largely at close quarters and included several clashes of heads. Rozicki suffered cuts over both eyes as the rounds progressed.

Billam-Smith found increasing success during the second half of the fight and finished the seventh round strongly.

Neither fighter gave much ground during the opening half of the fight, but Billam-Smith increasingly found success with his cleaner punches and higher work rate.

By the seventh round, the former world champion appeared to be taking control. Billam-Smith landed several sharp combinations and repeatedly connected with clean shots as Rozicki continued to march forward.

The sustained attack took its toll.

After a difficult seventh round, Rozicki was unable to continue, bringing an end to the contest and handing Billam-Smith a stoppage victory. The official result went into the books as a seventh-round TKO.

The win improved Billam-Smith’s record to 22-2 with 14 knockouts and provided another significant victory in front of his hometown supporters.

For Rozicki, the defeat ended a brave effort in which he remained dangerous throughout but was ultimately worn down by Billam-Smith’s volume, accuracy and persistence.

The victory keeps Billam-Smith firmly in the conversation for major cruiserweight fights moving forward as he continues his pursuit of another world title opportunity.
