Leo Atang Stops Fouad Shaili In Opening Round To Stay Unbeaten

Heavyweight prospect Leo Atang continued his rise through the professional ranks with a first-round stoppage of Fouad Shaili on Saturday night at Sheffield Arena.

The unbeaten Atang wasted little time getting to work, establishing his jab early before landing a series of right hands that quickly put Shaili on the defensive.

As the pressure mounted, Atang unleashed a combination that left Shaili pinned in place and absorbing clean shots. Referee Kieran McCann stepped in to halt the contest at 2:30 of the opening round, awarding Atang another early victory.

Shaili protested the stoppage and even performed push-ups in the ring afterward to demonstrate that he felt capable of continuing, but the referee’s decision stood.

The fight had been scheduled for six rounds, but never threatened to go beyond the opening session as Atang immediately imposed himself.

The victory improved Atang’s record to 7-0 with 6 knockouts and extended an impressive run that has established him as one of Britain’s emerging heavyweight prospects.
