The NFC West might not be the best division in the NFL, but it’s probably the most competitive.
The Arizona Cardinals (6-4) lead the division, but the Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks are all just one game back at 5-5. Each team still has seven games remaining in the regular season, and the NFC West is anybody’s to win.
In particular, Los Angeles has a mixed bag to end the year.
The Rams face the Eagles on Sunday before battling the Saints and Bills in the following weeks. New Orleans should be winnable for the Rams, but the games against Philadelphia and Buffalo will be tough.
After that, it’s the division gauntlet.
The Rams battle the 49ers, Cardinals and Seahawks in three of their last four games and also face the New York Jets. While the Jets game is in New York, that should be winnable for the Rams.
But the NFC West games will be huge. With so much parity in the division, each game will go a long way in deciding which of the four teams wins the NFC West.
It’s also worth noting how big the division championship is for each of the four squads.
If the season ended today, the Cardinals would be the only NFC West team in the playoffs. The Washington Commanders are 1.5 games ahead of the Seahawks, 49ers and Rams in the wild card race.
Not every game for the Rams is a must-win at this point, but it’s getting close to the witching hour. With so little separation in the NFC West, both wins and losses are crucial in this stretch.
