Richard Torrez Jr. says Saturday’s fight against Frank Sanchez is the moment where people either stop doubting him or find out he belongs among the heavyweight contenders after other fighters reportedly passed on the matchup.
“I don’t think you should be in the sport if you don’t think you’re the best. And I’m very confident in my ability as a fighter. I’m very confident in my ability just in general. I want to put it to the test. I’m not here to have easy fights. I’m here to make things happen. And that’s what we’re going to do Saturday night,” said Torrez Jr. to Pro Boxing Fans.
“Saturday’s the time to either put up or shut up for everybody. It’s either we’re going to prove everyone right, or we’re going to prove everybody right. Just which side’s going to win.”
Torrez said he is preparing for the best possible version of Sanchez and insisted he wants dangerous opponents instead of slow-building fights against weaker heavyweights.
“I’m preparing for the best Frank. I’m preparing for a Frank that’s coming to fight. Catch him at his best time or his worst time, I still feel prepared.
“In order to show your skills, you have to go and get someone skillful. I’m not in the game to just beat up on someone. I want the hard fights. I want to be able to show that I’m supposed to be here at the top of the world.
“I want to know I’m the best. And in order to know you’re the best, you have to fight the best,” said Torrez Jr.
