Mets get walk-off, 10-inning win over Yankees, take 2 of 3 in Subway Series

Carson Benge’s chopper up the middle scored Marcus Semien in the 10th inning to give the New York Mets a 7-6 win over the New York Yankees on Sunday.

The walk-off win completed a four-run rally that began in the ninth inning against Yankees closer David Bednar. Benge and Bo Bichette singled to begin the inning. Yet Bednar looked as if he might escape the jam after getting Juan Soto to ground out and striking out Mark Vientos.

However, on his first pitch to Tyrone Taylor, Bednar hung a curveball in the very middle of the strike zone. Taylor yanked the ball down the left-field line, and the only question was whether it would stay fair. The drive sliced inside the foul pole for a three-run homer.

For Bednar, the blown save was only his second of the season in 12 opportunities and the first time he’s allowed more than one run in 20 appearances this season. Taylor’s shot was only the second home run the Yankees closer had allowed in 2026.

The Mets took two of three games in their “Subway Series” matchup with the cross-town rival Yankees at Citi Field. And one of this season’s most disappointing teams appears to be heating up, winning four of its last five games and nine of its past 14.

“The atmosphere here was electric,” Taylor said after the game. “Bednar’s a really good pitcher, so it felt good, for sure.”

The Mets’ comeback erased rough outings for starting pitcher Freddy Peralta and reliever Sean Manaea, who combined to give up five earned runs and six hits in nine innings. Peralta also issued six walks.

Unfortunately for the Yankees, the walk-off defeat erased a solid performance for Elmer Rodríguez, who allowed one run with five hits in 4 1/3 innings.

At 19-26, the Mets are still in last place in the National League East. However, they’re now only one game behind the fourth-place Miami Marlins and four back from the second-place Philadelphia Phillies.

Two straight losses have dropped the Yankees to 28-18 and two games behind the first-place Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East. They have lost eight of their past 11 games.
