Frank Warren Explains Daniel Dubois’ Awkward Interviews

Promoter Frank Warren argues that critics are misinterpreting Daniel Dubois’s recent media walkouts, attributing the heavyweight champion’s behavior to an introverted personality rather than pre-fight nerves.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s Manchester showdown with Fabio Wardley, Warren highlighted Dubois’s preference for privacy even after his career-best victory over Anthony Joshua.

“Everybody who fights Daniel tries to get under his skin,” said Warren to Secondsout about Dubois. “Fabio’s doing the same thing. It’s not Daniel’s style to do that. He’s more of an introvert. Fabio’s very articulate, very well spoken, whereas Daniel is articulate, but he doesn’t really want to be doing it.

“I look at 93,000 people at Wembley when he done an absolute job on AJ. Had him on the floor five or six times before he knocked him out. Then in the dressing room, he wanted to go home. I had to drag him to the press conference after us, and he’s coming off that magnificent victory.”

Dubois’s perceived “awkwardness” has become a central theme of fight week. However, Warren’s account of the post-Wembley locker room suggests a consistent pattern of behavior that has historically preceded Dubois’s most dominant performances in the ring.
