LIV Golf postpones New Orleans event

LIV Golf has postponed the tournament that was due to take place in New Orleans next month, citing issues around the impact that the United States’ co-hosting of the FIFA World ‌Cup could have on attendance and viewership.

LIV Golf Louisiana was initially scheduled for June ‌25-28 at Bayou Oaks at City Park in New Orleans, but concerns over the impact the FIFA World ‌Cup, as well as issues relating to high temperatures and course conditions were also believed to be factors in the decision to delay the event.

The Louisiana event was the only LIV tournament on the schedule that was due to plated during the World Cup, which takes place in the US, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.

The postponement comes less than two weeks after the LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil said the circuit’s 2026 season would proceed as planned after reports that the series was at risk of losing its funding from the Saudi PIF.

LIV Golf officials have been working in coordination with the Louisiana governor’s office and economic officials to find a new date for the tournament later in the year. A joint statement was released by Louisiana governor Jeff Landry and Louisiana economic development secretary Susan Bonnett Bourgeois on Tuesday, confirming the LIV tournament postponement.

“Secretary Bourgeois spoke with LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil on Friday and was informed that the organisation seeks to postpone its June 2026 event in New Orleans to explore a potential event this fall,” the statement read.

“The state has already paid $3.2m in accordance with the contract. LIV is expected to return all state incentive funds, with the exception of the $2m already invested in upgrades for City Park, ensuring those improvements remain in place for the community. We appreciate LIV’s good-faith efforts and look forward to maintaining our partnership as we continue conversations around an event later this year.”

LIV Golf Virginia at Trump National Golf Club is scheduled to take place from May 7-10 in Washington DC, with further events in South Korea (May 28-31) and Valderrama in Spain (June 4-7), before a gap to LIV Golf’s return to JCB Golf & Country Club in England from July 23-26.
