The 266-Pound Question: Why Derek Chisora’s Physique Has Fans Worried

Reaction on X quickly moved past the scale reading and onto Chisora’s physique, with fans joking about his “dad bod” and speculating about his diet during camp, but the tone hasn’t been purely dismissive. There is a layer of curiosity behind the humor, because a soft midsection at this level usually points to conditioning questions rather than a calculated physical peak.

Chisora has built his career on pressure, strength, and a willingness to turn fights into close-range battles, so there is a case that the added weight is deliberate. Carrying more mass could allow him to lean on Wilder, slow the pace, and force exchanges on the inside where his rough style is most effective. That approach has been part of his identity for years, and a heavier version of Chisora fits that blueprint.

Seeing Chisora step on the scale at a career-high 266.7 pounds with a clear pot belly is definitely enough to make any fan do a double-take, especially considering Deontay Wilder is the one standing across from him.

The concern is how that weight is distributed and how it affects mobility. A slower, heavier Chisora becomes easier to track and easier to hit, which is a risky trade against a puncher like Wilder, who has ended fights suddenly even when outboxed for long stretches.

Carrying that much extra weight around the midsection usually leads to a “gas out” around round five or six. If Chisora doesn’t get to Wilder early, he becomes a sitting duck in the later rounds.

However, Wilder has looked hesitant and gun-shy in his recent outings. If Wilder is looking for the “perfect” shot, a heavy, plodding Chisora might still be able to bully him into the ropes.

Fans seem to understand both sides, which explains the mixed reaction. The visual has produced plenty of jokes, but it has also raised a simple question about whether this version of Chisora is built for a grinding fight or showing signs of a camp that didn’t fully come together.

Chisora’s best chance has always been to make things ugly. By coming in heavy, he might be planning to use every bit of that mass to lean on Wilder, smother his punches, and sap the energy out of the leaner American. If he’s “soft,” it might be a byproduct of focusing entirely on strength and bulk rather than the cardio required for a track meet.
