Francisco Fonseca targets Floyd Schofield fight deal this week as talks advance

Francisco Fonseca says negotiations are underway for a fight with Floyd Schofield and expects a deal to be finalized this week. The Nicaraguan contender confirmed the discussions, adding a short timeline as both camps work toward terms.

The update signals active negotiations rather than early-stage interest, though no date, venue, or broadcast details have been confirmed. Schofield’s side has not publicly commented, leaving the outcome dependent on whether an agreement is reached within the stated window. The proposed fight would take place in the super featherweight division, where both fighters are currently active near the title picture.

Schofield (19-0, 13 KOs) is coming off the biggest statement of his career, a 78-second demolition of former champion Tevin Farmer last June. It was a clinical performance that moved him to the #2 spot in the WBA rankings.

Farmer entered that fight on a three-fight losing streak but had gone the distance in competitive bouts against William Zepeda and Raymond Muratalla, giving context to the result without altering Schofield’s momentum.

Francisco Fonseca (38-4-2, 30 KOs) has won seven consecutive fights since a 2023 loss to Zhora Hamazaryan. His recent run has come against lower-tier opposition, but it has kept him active and positioned for another opportunity.

If finalized, the fight would match Schofield’s current form against Fonseca’s experience, with both sides working to complete terms within the week.
