“Mason will never fight Floyd, because they know he can’t beat Floyd,” Schofield Sr. told MillCity Boxing. “They shared one round of four. They know what happened. We even beat them in the amateurs. I got that video. These dudes know ‘Kid.’ They’re not going to get in the ring with us.”

Schofield Sr. argued that sanctioning-body politics are also helping keep the two fighters apart. He said the rankings have been manipulated in a way that keeps Floyd outside immediate title contention, which, in his view, protects certain champions from dangerous challengers.

“We’re not even ranked in the WBO, because they’re trying to protect him,” Schofield Sr. said. “We’re not even ranked in the top 10 in the WBO. With the WBC, we’re not ranked there. We’re ranked #17 because they were trying to protect Shakur. That’s how political these things are.”

The elder Schofield added that his team is not waiting for voluntary opportunities and will continue pushing forward until a mandatory position forces a title fight.

“We’re going to keep fighting until a belt is mandated,” he said. “So we’re not worried about them no more. We’re going to make our money.”

The comments reflect a familiar strategy in boxing, where camps often apply public pressure when a matchup has not materialized. Mason currently holds the WBO lightweight title and is one of the division’s rising names, while Schofield has been working his way toward a title opportunity.

Whether the fight ever happens will likely depend on how quickly Schofield moves into a mandatory position in the rankings. At this point, his father appears content to keep pushing the issue publicly while Floyd continues climbing toward the top of the lightweight division.
