Andres Cortes headlines Zuffa show after Top Rank split

Unbeaten lightweight contender Andres Cortes will headline the next card from Zuffa Boxing, marking a fresh chapter in his career after his departure from Top Rank.

Zuffa confirmed that Cortes will face Dominican fighter Eridson Garcia in a scheduled 10-round bout on April 5 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, with the event set to stream live on Paramount+.

The bout represents Cortes’ first appearance as a main event attraction since parting ways with Top Rank in 2025. The 28-year-old contender built much of his record under the company’s banner while competing in the junior lightweight division, where wins over Xavier Martinez and Abraham Nova helped move him into the upper tier of contenders.

Since leaving Top Rank, Cortes has continued to remain active while searching for a new promotional home. His signing with Zuffa Boxing places him at the front of one of the company’s upcoming cards and gives him another opportunity to stay visible in a competitive lightweight class.

Garcia enters the fight riding a six-fight winning streak after suffering the lone defeat of his career in 2023, when he was stopped in the first round by Jordan White on the former ShoBox series. The Dominican fighter rebounded with several victories, including a wide decision over William Foster III and a split decision win against Taiga Imanaga in Riyadh last December.

Both fighters have previously campaigned at 130 pounds, but the contest will take place at lightweight as Zuffa’s events have generally avoided junior or super division labels.

The April 5 card will also feature former WBC featherweight champion Mark Magsayo against Feargal McCrory in a 10-round lightweight bout. In the opening fight of the three-bout broadcast, veteran puncher Azat Hovhannisyan will meet Eduardo Baez in a scheduled 10-round featherweight fight.

The show continues Zuffa Boxing’s early run of events at the UFC Apex since the promotion launched its boxing series earlier this year. The April card is scheduled for Easter Sunday and will be the latest installment of the company’s growing schedule of shows staged at the Las Vegas venue.
