Shields held the edge in the opening round. Crews-Dezurn responded in the second during a wild, swinging exchange-filled round. From the third through the sixth, the action remained physical, with Shields landing the cleaner, more effective punches.

In the eighth round, Shields landed a right hand that drew blood from Crews-Dezurn’s mouth. The ninth continued in a similar fashion, with limited jabbing and heavy exchanges, Shields again getting the better of it. In the tenth and final round, Crews-Dezurn pressed Shields to the ropes for a stretch before Shields finished strong in the final minute, outworking her to close the fight.

Though neither fighter exceeded the light heavyweight limit of 175 pounds, the bout was officially contested at heavyweight, with Crews-Dezurn moving up from 168 pounds.

Undercard Results

WBA Continental Americas light heavyweight champion Atif “Lord Pretty Calvo” Oberlton, 15-0 (13), 174¾ pounds, of Philadelphia, stopped Joseph George Jr., 13-2 (8), 173½ pounds, of Houston, after one round of a scheduled 10-round bout for the WBC USA title. A clash of heads occurred in the final seconds of the round. Between rounds, George fell from his stool and was unable to continue. Referee Ansel Stewart officiated.

In the women’s super lightweight division, Samantha “The Heat” Worthington, 12-1 (7), 139 pounds, of Lexington, Kentucky, was stopped by Edith Soledad Matthysse, 21-16-1 (4), 138¼ pounds, of Trelew, Chubut, Argentina, in the eighth round of a scheduled 10.

Perkins rebounded after dropping the opening round and consistently forced Kenneally to the ropes. In the sixth, a left and right hook to the chin dropped Kenneally, and referee Ben Rodriguez waved it off.
