Newcastle star Sandro Tonali ‘high on Man Utd’s summer transfer shortlist’ alongside two England stars

SANDRO TONALI is a reported major midfield target for Manchester United this summer.

The Italy star was linked with a big-money move away from Newcastle this month.

And SunSport revealed earlier this week that he is growing increasingly frustrated at St James’ Park.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City are huge admirers of the £100million-rated ace.

Tonali, who joined Toon from AC Milan for £55million in 2023, is also wanted by several Serie A sides.

But the Telegraph claims that he has now emerged as a top target for a resurgent Man United.

Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, both set to be part of England’s World Cup plans this summer, are also on their shortlist, SunSport exclusively revealed.

The Red Devils have won four league games on the bounce under Michael Carrick and are hoping to end the season with Champions League football.

However, they are set to be light on midfielders as veteran Casemiro approaches the end of his contract.

The Brazilian, 33, has confirmed he will leave Old Trafford on a free transfer this summer.

Illustration of Newcastle's Sandro Tonali with his 2025-26 season stats, including 25 games, 18 chances created, 1078 passes, 0 goals, 1 assist, 26 tackles, and 17 fouls.

And Tonali has now been identified as a serious contender to replace Casemiro in the heart of United’s side.

The Serie A title winner with AC Milan in 2022 still has over three years on his £150,000-a-week Newcastle contract, with the option for a fourth.

Toon are determined to keep hold of Tonali, with the player himself not actively looking for an exit.

However, he was heard venting his frustrations to a member of staff after Newcastle were demolished by Man City 5-1 in the Carabao Cup.

Tonali’s agent also revealed last week that all parties will come together this summer to discuss the midfielder’s future on Tyneside.

Giuseppe Riso told Tuttosport: “Newcastle are having a hard time letting go of Sandro and he wants to lead the club to the Champions League.

“We’ll evaluate and decide what to do in the summer. These transfer discussions will take place later. We’ll see how the season ends and then we’ll decide what to do.

“There’s no preference. It’s still early. What we’re saying today won’t apply tomorrow. Newcastle couldn’t let him go now and there’s no point moving, especially since Sandro is very attached to the club.”
