England fans revolt against rip-off World Cup prices as record 6,000 tickets go unsold for matches including the final

FED-UP England fans are swerving rip-off World Cup prices — rejecting a record 6,000 tickets.

They include more than 1,000 for the final, costing from £3,129 to £6,489.

Figures show 90 per cent of the England Supporters Travel Club’s 30,000 members refused to give in to greedy Fifa chiefs’ demands.

The FA sold just 3,409 of its 4,500 seats for the July 19 showpiece at the 82,000-seat MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

The value of the unsold 1,091 tickets tops £7.1million, with almost all understood to be the most expensive Category One sections.

Just 600 bargain £45 seats were made available.

A further 814 tickets were left unsold for the semi-final, with the FA shifting 2,686 out of 3,500.

Apart from 500 £45 tickets, they are priced from £687 to £2,370.

Most expensive in history

This year’s World Cup — being held across the US, Canada and Mexico — is the most expensive in history, with fans also facing high prices for flights and hotels.

So far, every England match from the opening fixture onwards has failed to sell out.

The FA must now decide whether to return unwanted tickets or try to resell them.

Veteran travelling England fan Simon Harris, 67, a retired finance worker, from Bridgnorth, Shrops, said: “The final would be our biggest game since Bobby Moore lifted the trophy in 1966.

“It’s extraordinary there are so many unsold tickets.

“It’s a huge snub to Fifa and their disgusting prices. The biggest event in football has unsold seats for every England game.”

England’s Supporters Travel Club confirmed: “Category One tickets were under-subscribed, therefore anyone who applied in this category was successful.”

The FA was approached for comment.
