‘Who decides that’ – Jordan Henderson left in disbelief over Sky Sports decision following Newcastle vs Brentford

JORDAN HENDERSON was left in disbelief after seeing Vitaly Janelt snubbed from the Player of the Match award by Sky Sports.

Brentford beat Newcastle at St James’ Park on Saturday evening for the first time since 1934.

The Bees fell behind after Sven Botman headed in but battled back with goals from Janelt and Igor Thiago before half-time.

Bruno Guimaraes put the hosts level from the spot in the second half, but Dango Ouattara‘s winner handed the points to Kieth Andrews’ side.

Henderson and Janelt were on duty to speak to Sky Sports after the game and discuss their winning performance.

However, the former Sunderland star was left in shock when his team-mate was handed the award but only to pass it on to Ouattara.

He said: “What, he didn’t get it? He didn’t get the award?

“No chance, who decides that?

“I was going to say it is about time he got one. Come on.”

Pundit and commentator Alan Smith was the man behind the decision, as he was asked for his Player of the Match.

The former Arsenal and Leicester City striker went for the impressive Burkina Faso international.

During his interview, Henderson praised his team-mates’ performance in the North East.

He said: “We knew it was a big game for us. I can’t remember the last time we won here. 1934. It’s been a long time.

“It was a big game for us to come here and put on a performance and try to get three points. I thought the boys were outstanding again.

“The reaction from the boys was top-class.

“Going in at half-time 2-1, we knew in the second half it would be difficult at St James’ Park with the atmosphere and they’re a top team.

“I thought the lads dug in really well and deservedly got the three points.”

The win lifted Brentford to 7th place in the Premier League table – level on points with Liverpool.

Newcastle, however, have fallen to 12th as the Magpies’ form in the league remains inconsistent.
