Celtic star Kieran Tierney left lying flat out after being caught with flying boot to the face against Dundee

KIERAN TIERNEY could be set for another spell on the sidelines after being caught with a flying boot to the face during Celtic’s match against Dundee.

The Hoops and Scotland defender was forced off in the second half of the game following a nasty collision with Cameron Congreve.

Tierney, 28, had to be replaced by Marcelo Saracchi and headed straight for the tunnel looking visibly shaken up.

The clash happened in the 90th minute of the Scottish Cup tie – six minutes before the Hoops dramatically equalised in the tie – when Tierney went to head the ball while Congreve tried to catch it with his left foot.

Tierney’s face was hit by the tip of Congreve’s boot and he went down immediately.

The left-back was left lying flat out on the deck as a result of the contact and didn’t move for several seconds.

A stretcher was called for and there were fears it could be a serious injury.

The Hoops club doctor and the paramedics inside the ground applied a cold compress to the player’s cheek and wiped away any blood.

In the end the Celtic star didn’t require the stretcher but given the proximity of Congreve’s studs to Tierney’s cheek and nose there could yet be a knock that shows up in a scan.

But SunSport understands Tierney is not expected to miss an extended period of time.

Many fans inside the ground and on social media were quick to wonder how Congreve managed to escape a red card for his outstretched foot.

Celtic won the game 2-1 in the end, with late transfer window addition Junior Adamu scoring the equaliser on his debut before Sebastian Tounekti hit the winner in extra-time.
