In the 54th minute, Hull confirmed on X: “A halt in play due to a disruptive squirrel…”

Some players saw the funny side as the squirrel raced across the pitch.

Play soon resumed, only for the squirrel to return five minutes later.

Despite their side being 3-1 down, Hull fans were also amused by the scene.

As the squirrel crossed the goal line, many supporters cheered as if they’d scored.

Poking fun at their own famous chant, Hull’s official X account posted: “Play resumes after being “mauled by the squirrel”.

And talkSPORT reporter Mark Wilson joked: “It’s back! Been in the @BristolCity net twice!!!

But the Robins came roaring back and led 2-1 at half-time via goals by Rob Atkinson and Ross McCrorie.

And five minutes into the second half Emil Riis Jakobsen made it 3-1.
