ANDY MURRAY is mourning the loss of his grandmother Shirley Erskine this morning – just weeks after his grandfather Roy also passed away.
Three-time Grand Slam tennis winner Murray’s cousin, actor Ailsa Erskine shared the sad news that Shirley had died last week on her Instagram account – with Murray himself liking the post.
Former footballer Roy died last month, with his former club Stirling Albion breaking the sad news.
Andy and his brother Jamie were devoted to their grandparents, with Ailsa paying tribute to her grandmother as “one of a kind” and someone who “‘lit up every room“.
The caption read in full: “We said goodbye to my sweet, amazing, hilarious and one of a kind granny last week.
“She lit up every room she walked into, smiled at every stranger she passed and was always guilty of having too much chatter down Dunblane High Street.
“I will miss her so much but there will not be a day that goes by that I won’t think of her and take a little bit of her with me.
“What a life she led and I will count my lucky stars to have grown up with such a light of a woman in my life.
“Sleep well granny, mini, fairy b, gran gran, Shirley E, my best friend. Thanks for giving me the gift of the gab.
“Say hi to Grandpa for me. Love you so much.”
Roy, who died aged 94, kicked off his career as a full-back with Hibs in 1952 after completing his national service.
Two years later he joined Stirling Albion before a move to Cowdenbeath where he played 56 out of 57 games.
In 2023, Judy shared a snap of her dad with the Division two trophy at Forthbank Stadium as he was a guest of the club.
She told how a 75-year-old man at the game remembered her dad playing for the club in 1954.
