Yoenli Hernandez vs Jahi Tucker Talks Advance for Fundora Thurman Card

The proposed fight is being discussed for the undercard of Sebastian Fundora vs Keith Thurman, which was officially re confirmed this week for Amazon Prime Video PPV at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The potential pairing was first reported by Dan Rafael, who described it as an interesting middleweight matchup currently in negotiations.

Hernandez enters the discussion as one of the division’s most closely monitored contenders. The 28 year old Cuban is unbeaten with nine wins and eight knockouts and is ranked number one by the WBA at middleweight, a position that usually brings movement rather than patience. At his age and ranking, there is little incentive to extend his learning curve through low risk appearances, particularly on a major pay per view card.

A two time amateur world champion from Camaguey, Hernandez compiled a 63 wins, 12 losses amateur record before turning professional. His early pro outings have shown a blend of control and finishing ability that separates him from routine prospects, and a fight of this type would fit the way contenders are typically positioned when a title route is being taken seriously.

Tucker offers a credible but controlled test in that context. The 23 year old holds a record of 15 wins, one loss, and one draw with six knockouts and has steadied his career since a majority decision loss to Nicklaus Flaz and a draw with Francisco Daniel Veron in 2023. Five straight wins have followed, including recent victories over Lorenzo Simpson and Troy Williamson, making him a useful measuring opponent rather than a placeholder.

If the bout is finalized, its placement on this card would be read as intentional. It would not be sold as a showcase, but it would underline that Hernandez is being positioned to move forward rather than wait.
