Paul Pogba’s Monaco nightmare goes from bad to worse as ex-Man Utd star is axed from squad

MONACO midfielder Paul Pogba has been dealt another setback in his turbulent career.

The World Cup winner has failed to be selected in Monaco’s Champions League squad.

Following his 18 month doping ban, Pogba, 32, joined AS Monaco to try and rekindle his playing career.

The once most expensive player in the world is yet to start a match for Monaco this term, and has played a total of 47 minutes of football.

Unsurprisingly since his doping ban, fitness has been the star’s Achilles heel.

He had to wait until November to make his Monaco debut.

Considering the former Man United man had not played a competitive match for two years, Monaco must have realised the risks behind giving him the opportunity.

The World Cup winner has consistently denied any wrongdoing surrounding his doping ban.

He failed a drug test while playing for Juventus in 2023 when non-endogenous testosterone was found in his test results.

Pogba’s omission from the second phase Champions League squad sums up his time in Monaco so far.

He did not feature at all in the league phase of the competition, so it is understandable that his services are not needed.

Monaco will face PSG in a two legged play-off for a place in the Champions League last 16.

Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro recently said: “The plan implemented since Paul’s arrival isn’t working as expected.

“The entire medical department is focused on finding solutions.”

The World Cup winner finds himself on the treatment bench again, after suffering an injury to his left calf during training.
